/>My final digital art project is going to be on flash. i have an idea for animating a song that i thought was really catchy and really funny, so i am hoping for my project to turn out funny as well. hopefully i wont become to frustrated with flash and give up on my idea. i am planning on using mostly pictures as a kind of slideshow through the lyrics, however i am going to add some animation to it also. i think i will incorporate photoshopped images too so i can make some of the pictures more interesting. and since the cover of the band's cd is so colorful and cartoon-ish, i want to try and reinvent that as well and make the flowers move with the beat of the song. unfortunately, while on youtube looking for the music video for the song, i stumbled across other animated versions. they are all obviously done by beginners so hopefully i can make mine better than theirs and not so lame...

if my flash attempt does not end up going as planned, i think i will focus on photoshop and try to expand on my first project, the self portrait. since it was a movie strip, i was thinking i could make more of the little scenes and try to make them into a story. i was going to incorporate dreamweaver into it too so it could read more like a story and not just like a picture. overall, i like my idea for the first project better so i am hoping that i will not get sick of trying to work through the difficulties of flash.

the most interesting part of chapter 3 in digital art was about the text and narrative environments that Ted Nelson has been experimenting with since before the major spread of the internet. the use of hypertext to write stories has transformed into an art of placing words in a "contextual and referential framework." this form of digital art is very much like the dreamweaver project we had assigned. especially with my project, the words are what propelled each page and the lyrics to the song is what made the project made sense. with each word was a different message that led to the ultimate page that linked all of them together. as the book states, postmodern and post-structuralist theory says that "dungeon crawls" do not have to go in order or be completely sequential to make sense. i think was true of many peoples dreamweaver projects because they all had separate links to choose from, which each took us to a different page.
the project "text rain" by Camille Utterback and Romy Achituv in 1999, the letters of words make up the majority of the idea. the words form around the body's shadows and then drip off of them from rain, which includes people's interactions within the experience. this inclusion of people within projects is what makes digital art today so interesting. it is interactive and personal and makes people get involved with art.

soo i know i was warned about how tricky flash was, but i guess i didnt want to believe it. now that i have started working with it, i realize how complicated it is. i havent exactly decided what my project is going to be yet, but i have played around with all the animations that you can do on the program. i have downloaded a trial flash on my computer and have read lots and lots of tutorials online. i've also come across some interesting flash projects that other people have done and have been searching for more of those to get some ideas on the kind of project i want to have. i have learned how to make a word run across the screen, make a ball bounce, create a guide for an object to follow and make a background for the animation. thankfully i have all of spring break to work on it and hopefully will come up with something cool. since i am going to be up in the mountains this upcoming week, my project will probably have something to do with that: skiing, snow, etc.
i am worried about coming up with an idea and not being able to actually do it. the online tutorials can only get me so far so im scared that i wont like my finished project, simply because i couldnt make the animations that i wanted. i am also worried about using the action scripts cause i havent figured out how to use those yet. overall, i need to spend some serious time on it, both in playing around with the program and researching tutorials so my project will look good and will be functional.

<img width='1' height='1' current new member of e bay and have probably abused by bank account a little too much since being financially independent from my parents, but it's almost an addiction. E-commerce making its way into mainstream businesses has its beginnings in internet art and with the abilities of new computer needing less equipment, almost everyone has access to wireless internet and therefore, shopping. Although i never considered online shopping having anything to do with internet art, or art in general for that matter, it is interesting to finally realized why i have spent so much more money than i should have. advertising is obviously in the same realm of art, so it makes sense that internet art would close the gap between art and business, making it a major money making system and one of my favorite past times. this idea relates back to the communication idea from my previous blogs and how increase in communication equals the increase of productivity. with the increase in wireless, as well, more people are affected by this and can make their contribution to the economy right from their own home. although this may be a bad thing in my case, i think it is genius how retailers and sellers on e bay can reach so many people.

Before enrolling in this digital art class, I never realized how prominent internet art actually was. I did not know that people even considered using the internet as an acceptable medium and I did not consider what it costs to create a work of art or even start a digital art company. after reading chapter 3, i now realize that the programs for creating art is basically the foundation of internet art. Internet artists have struggle dot keep their companies even after they had made this medium a popular one. it surprises me that internet artists found it hard to come by people who were willing to give them grants or other money for their work since there are so many people who are interested in art and want to see it progress in any way. Internet art seems the most progressive to me since it is the most recent and it makes sense that its audience wants more and more out of the internet art. People no longer want just the normal web pages but want more complex application and even games like Maciej Wisniewski's Instant Places in 2002. I think these new programs are what is going to make internet art even more known to people who have no idea that it exists. even though i am a studio major, i knew very little about internet art and didn't realize what a big business it is turning into. It is the art that almost defines our generation since other mediums like paint and drawing have been around for a long time. Even digital art has been around since the 1920's so this form of art is truly revolutionary and will continue to progress and change with time as more people become involved and more money comes into the field.

<div much it has expanded in the past decade. Internet art has grown so much that it is possible to access virtually anyones art and for anyone to view your own. Because communication is a major feature of the internet, it is interesting to read about hypertext and the origins and applications of it. hypertext works by generally linking different pages together through words creating a sense of communication and internet surfing at the same time. It has become a sense of narrative and is almost parallels communication through art. Hypertext connects you with other parts of a narrative, while the internet connects you with other works of art.
Unlike television, "the net [is] high decentralized, making many forms of interaction and intervention possible. I think communication is the essence of communication art , which makes it convenient and also more complex. Project, such as Bindigirl and BRANDON, allow for a sensitive message to be broadcast through the internet, that in many ways is more effective in getting the point across about sexual identity than the movie Boys Don't Cry did. The internet allows an unlimited number of people to see and experience it, while the movie does not have that capability.

A common theme through the introduction and chapter one of Internet art is the communication that is available with this media. Artists across the world can access and view each others work and therefore make their names more well known. It seems like the greatest way to publicize yourself and reach a greater audience. For example, the networking that emerged in America and Europe during "development booms" made many projects known to the net art scene even though it was small. I think one of the most interesting elements of early internet art is the travel and documentary part of it. Having access to travel journals and pictures is a very practical way for visitors to take advantage, as well as a very easy way to let the artist put his work in the public.
Art and communication together also seem to be synonymous with each other because in art that is not digital, there is still a sense of communicating a message to the viewer, however, internet art allows the viewer to gain even more of an idea of what the piece is about through interaction, text and accessibility. Communication between countries is also another huge advantage because you can receive criticism or analysis from somebody without having to meet face to face. I never realized that internet art was actually practiced so to learn that it is affordable, easy to access and reaches to a wide range of people is refreshing.

As a medium, digital art has four different characteristics which make it an art medium: Interactive aspects, participation, dynamic qualities and customization. There are many forms of digital art as well, ranging from installations to film and video to sound and music. Installations are the most interesting to me because of the architectural quality that many of them have. Installations tend to either immerse people in with the work or create a whole new environment around the viewer. the architectural exploration is what allows this form of digital art to be so affective and powerful because real architecture can do that as well. when experiencing an installation such as the collaboration of Gilbert, Thorington and Walczak called Adrift, one can get the feeling of encountering something more than just digital art but a variety of multimedia including video, text and sound, all which combine together to create a cyber space, or "architecture in the virtual realm."

Another reason why i think digital architectural installations are interesting to look at and to analyze is because it seems so similar to how actual buildings and spaces can have an affect on people. when i walk into an established place like a museum, i get the feeling that there are priceless pieces of art within just from the mood, the sophisticated surroundings and atmosphere of the space in general. when visiting a digital installation, i think the artists are trying to capture a similar influence: to create a mood parallel to the meaning of their work and an atmosphere that reflects the mood.

It was very surprising to me to find out that digital art had its beginnings as early as the Dada movement with Marcel Duchamp. I had no idea that people were considering art from computers and technology that early, however, I guess it does make sense that Duchamp and other leaders of this movement would experiment with the newest form of art since their whole intent with their work was to shock their audience and reject the accepted standards of what art should be and mean. Digital art takes on that role in today's age in some sense because of the way that photos and images can be distorted, manipulated combined with other mediums to change the true image and create deeper meaning. Most digital art today, either in advertising or in art galleries, hide the artists meaning so that the viewer can come up with their own conclusions. Most is not straightforward in terms of subject; rarely do we see images of biblical scenes, that were frequently the subjects of paintings in earlier centuries, that have no had some kind of manipulation or addition to them to send a message, either political, social, or religious. Digital is the Dada of today because it is destruction of real images and is, in some sense, experimentation with the unknown.
<div
